Earlier today I met up with my colleague, Cllr Bruce Berry and residents of Saughall Massie to carry out a litter pick of the village, the Arrowebrook and Garden Hey Road.    You can read more about this, and Saughall Masse Village by clicking HERE

Me and Bruce, along with Iris and John Broster tackled the ditches and verges in Garden Hey Road, there was lots of discarded beer bottles in the ditches, some surprisingly still capped and full!  Other residents cleared out the brook and cleared West Kirby Road and other areas of the village.

It’s always great to get involved in community issues such as this, and if you know of an area in Moreton or Saughall Massie that needs litter picking please let me know and we will get it organised.

Thanks to everyone who came out this morning to help.

Great Community Spirit

Earlier this evening along with my colleague, Cllr Steve Williams and a large crowd of local residents I went along to Amberley Close in Moreton to witness the switch on of the (second) Moreton Lights by Claire Bear who had come down from Claire House Childrens Hospice to perform the switch on.

This is the eighth successive year that the George family and the Williams family have put together such a tremendous display on the fronts of their homes, raising thousands of pounds for Claire House, it has grown so much that many other neighbours are now decorating their homes.    It makes me proud to live in Moreton and be part of such a wonderful community.   You can read more HERE.

Approved

At Wirral’s Cabinet this evening I was delighted to move a recommendation for approval on a report from the Councils Head of Law to support the Overton Community bid to the community fund for £12,500, in order to ensure that the purchase of the land could be completed by the 30th September.    I also took the opportunity to put on record my thanks to Officers who had responded to my requests for action on this matter.   That OK with you  TC of Upton?

Newsline!

Our latest edition of the Moreton and Saughall Massie Newsline is currently being distributed to over 6,500 homes in our community.     The Newsline keeps residents informed of what is going on with local issues and what is happening with Wirral’s Conservative-led Council.

The Newsline is delivered free by Me, my colleagues, Cllr Steve Williams and Cllr Simon Mountney and more importantly by over 30 volunteers, who all help to get the news out.    Watch out for a copy dropping through your letterbox over the next week or so.

Best Month Ever!

Even with todays figures to be added, I am delighted to be able to say that the month of November has been the best for visits to this site, already exceeding 5,000 hits, and smashing the previous best month by over 500 visits.

It seems the mix of what we are doing here,  locally,  for the community, mixed with the political side, locally and nationally is a real winner.   Thanks to everyone for visiting, please bookmark the site and come back again.

Elsie Isabel Hancock RIP

I heard this morning that sadly,  Isabel Hancock passed away over Christmas.     While personally I did not know Isabel that well, I am told that she campaigned tirelessly for Moreton in years gone by, and that without her efforts, along with others, Moreton Community Centre may never have come to fruition.   She also campaigned long and hard (sadly without success) for a Swimming Baths in Moreton by the Library.   Her funeral is taking place next Monday 5th January, 2009, with a service at Christchurch on Upton Road, commencing at 12:45pm.   I will be going along to pay my respects to her.

Christchurch Primary School

Yesterday afternoon, along with my colleague, Leah Fraser I attended the Christmas Fair at Christchurch Primary School on Upton Road.   The place was heaving with the queue for Santa Grotto stretching almost as far as Lapland!   A huge thanks to the PTA, staff and pupils who made the event a huge success.

Seacombe Newsline

This morning, in absolutely glorious weather, and along with members of the Action Team we started distribution of our latest, Seacombe and Poulton Community Newsline.   I was delivering to lots of the the roads off Brighton Street, close to the Town Hall, whilst other team members were delivering in other parts of the ward.   If you have not received your copy yet don’t worry it’s on its way.   In the meantime if you want to read it online, simply click here.

Community Newsline

This morning I was out with the team helping in New Brighton with the ‘mopping up’ of the latest delivery of New Brighton Community Newsline.   The weather was glorious, lets hope it stays that way for a few days, we really do deserve an indian summer.   Next week sees the team start the distributution of the next edition of the Seacombe and Poulton Community Newsline.
